Abdominal Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

Upper Abdomen:

  • Fast for 6-8 hours before the scan (no food or fizzy drinks).
  • Small sips of water only if needed for medication.
  • Avoid smoking, chewing gum, or vaping before the scan.

Lower Abdomen Scan

  • Drink 1–2 litres of water 1 hour before your scan.
  • Do not empty your bladder until after the scan.
  • No fasting needed unless combined with an upper abdomen scan.

Pelvic Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • Transabdominal and Transvaginal Scan: For transabdominal scans, please drink about 2 litres of water 45-One hour minutes before your appointment and do not empty your bladder.
    For transvaginal scans, please empty your bladder before arrival.

Renal Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • Kidney & Bladder Scan: Please drink about 1-2 litre of water 1 hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder.
    A full bladder helps assess both the bladder and kidneys more accurately. 
    No fasting is required unless advised otherwise.

Breast Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • No special preparation is required for a breast ultrasound.
    Please avoid applying lotions, powders, or deodorant on the chest or underarm area on the day of the scan.
    Wear a two-piece outfit for easy access during the examination.

Lumps & Bumps Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • No special preparation is needed for this scan.
    Please wear loose clothing to allow easy access to the area being scanned. Inform us if the lump has changed in size, is painful, or has been previously assessed.

Children Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • General: No special preparation needed. Your child can eat and drink normally — dress them in loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Abdominal: Avoid food and drinks (except small sips of water) for 4–6 hours before the scan for clearer images.

Vascular Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • Most vascular scans require no special preparation.
    For abdominal aorta scans, fast for 6 hours prior — no food or drink except water.
    Wear comfortable clothing and bring details of any previous vascular tests, if available.

Neck Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • No special preparation is needed.
    Please avoid wearing necklaces or high-collar clothing.
    Bring any previous imaging or blood test results if available.

MSK Ultrasound 

Scan Preparation

  • No special preparation is needed.
    Please avoid wearing necklaces or high-collar clothing.
    Bring any previous imaging or blood test results if available.
